The Municipality of Amsterdam is committed to developing the Hamerkwartier as a ‘Creative Production District’. There will be a mix of 6,500 houses in different housing types and hundreds of small-scale business units. STIPO was asked to create an approach to ensure a good mixed-us area where the traditional small businesses are not displaced.In the first phase, we conducted an exploratory study into the need among market parties for an exploitation company, and there turned out to be a demand for it.
In the summer of 2022, STIPO started drawing up a Business Plan for the Exploitatiemaatschappij Hamerkwartier (EMH). We are examining what the EMH should look like, how we can collect capital to buy commercial space and how we can then ensure that it becomes a positive exploitation. We do this by speaking with developers and investors in the area. An EMH is of added value in turning the Hamerkwartier into a successful residential-work area.
At the end of 2022, we will present the Business Plan to the municipality, who then will decide whether there will be a next step in which the Exploitatiemaatschappij Hamerkwartier will actually be established.
